Craigslistblog.org Fulfills Missing Gap
San Francisco-based Website Launches Today
San Francisco, CA March 24 2008- There is no argument that Craig Newmark’s Craigslist.org has become very successful. What began as a San Francisco-based online community for local events in 1995 has become a universal database for both services and discussion forums. Craigslist.org ranks #7 in English-speaking page views with more than 9 billion hits a month, and 25 million users in the US alone. The absence of a specific website aimed entirely at discussing the good, bad, and ugly of the massive Craigslist marketplace strikes many as a gaping hole in the online body politic, especially in light of the intense mainstream popularity of both personal and corporate blogging, One such man is Timothy White of San Francisco, the founder of Craigslistblog.org.
The page-viewing top ten is populated with the usual players like Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft, all of whom implemented their own blogs long before Craigslistblog.org was a thought in White’s mind. In Google’s case, there are almost 50, nearly one for each product they’ve developed. Craigslistblog.org is the first – and only – of its kind: a daily blog pertaining exclusively to Craigslist. White believes there is a colossal sea of blog readers who will be attracted to Craigslistblog.org on multiple levels including research, current events, and entertainment. With categories like police stings, politics, scams, fraud, sex, and personals, all highlighting events specific to Craigslist postings, Craigslistblog.org is quickly gaining the attention of the built-in community that has made the original website such an enigma.
Attempts have been made in previous years to set up an independent discussion forum outside of the Craigslist domain. However, the site is too often approached as a manageable, self-sustaining lamb. With over 40 million ads, job listings and images posted monthly, it’s more complicated than it appears – a credit to the small-town feel of the website’s design. Maintaining a blog solely dedicated to Craigslist current events takes a great amount of focus, a deep knowledge of Craigslist news, event history, global presence, and a history of Internet strategy.
White echoes the much-publicized sentiment of Craig Newmark when he states “it’s not about money.” Says White, “Craigslistblog.org simply aims to be the catalyst of connection. It’s a connection that, until today, was obviously missing.”
Craigslistblog.org is based in San Francisco, California.
